JOB DESCRIPTION

SCHOOL-AGE GROUP LEADER

 Purpose:  Responsible for supervising school-age children in an appropriate manner that contributes to their growth and development.

 Key Responsibilities:

 1.  To interact, initiate and encourage the children in activities during the day.

2.  To help the children control behavior using a positive approach; always to use a consistent technique.

3.  To nurture but help the children become independent.

4.  To help the children learn good social skills.

5.  To maintain good communication with parents and make each one feel comfortable at our center.

6.  To assist curriculum coordinator in planning activities for the group and offer suggestions..

7.  To assist in cooperation of large group or center activities.

8.  To observe and document all accidents, behavior and health.

9.  Project a professional image to parents, on site school employees as well as children.

10.  To attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.

 Reporting Relationships:

 1.  Site Manager

2.  In absence of Site Manager, reports to After-School Coordinator

3.  In the absence of the After-School Coordinator, reports to the Executive Director.

 Requirements:

 1.  High school diploma or meet guidelines established in section 3300A of DPRS Minimum Standards.

2.  Ability to interact with children.

3.  Evidence of security and judgment to handle crisis situations.

4.  Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.

5.  Sensitivity to children's individual needs.

6.  Ability to use appropriate and positive discipline.

10. 15 hours of training per year related to children

 Time Commitment:

 All After School Staff are required to be available from 2:15-6:00 P.M. Monday –Friday.  Staff may also be needed during Christmas Camp, Spring Break, and Summer. 

 

DIRECTOR

KIDS & COMPANY-EDNA

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Coordinate and manage the instructional program and supervise daily operations of the childcare component of Kids and Company (this includes after-school and summer camp). 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 Education

Degree in Child Development and/or ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities. CDA credential will be considered, but must be maintained during entirety of employment.  

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and minimum standards.

Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.                                    

 Experience:

Three years experience as a lead teacher in a childcare environment preferred. Experience working in a supervisory role in a childcare environment.

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

  1. Supervise curriculum and environment to ensure the program activities are developmentally appropriate.
  2. Supervise the program and staff on an ongoing basis. Observe and evaluate program staff and serve as a resource for staff.
  3. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers as necessary.
  4. Coordinate lesson plans with staff.
  5. Comply will all state and federal laws and regulations affecting child care centers. 
  6. Ensure that class rules are appropriate and uniformly observed and that guidance techniques are appropriate.
  7. Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional development activities; disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  8. Represent Kids & Company within the community and provide opportunities for growth.
  9. Articulate Kids & Company mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  10. Use appropriate techniques for community and parent involvement.
  11. Coordinate volunteers working with Kids & Company.
  12. Conduct staff meetings and trainings as required by licensing (monthly).
  13. Responsible for overseeing of food program and/or managing food costs.
  14. Develop staff schedules to ensure that ratios are being kept at all times.
  15. Conduct interviews and orientation as needed for new employees.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

SCHOOL-AGE SITE MANAGER

 

Purpose:  Responsible for staff supervision and program implementation of after school program within the school district.

 Key Responsibilities:

 1.  Train, supervise and provide input for evaluating all school-age site personnel and volunteers assigned to the site.

2.  Communicate with the person who conducts scheduling to make sure site is covered.

3. Ensure the site conforms to all licensing and contract requirements (monthly fire drills, etc).

4.  Plan and conduct regular and called meetings of site staff (at least one meeting per week for 15 minutes).  You should address strengths/weaknesses of the program, any improvements that need to be made, etc.

5.  Participate in center staff meetings and/or training.  The requirement is 15 hours per year of training.

6.  Assist in development and execution of group activities that contribute to the care, growth and development of the children enrolled at the school-age site.

7.  Coordinate School-age site area, adhering to existing contractual agreements with schools, etc.

8.  Assist School-age staff by making recommendations for placement of children based on age, temperament or ability.

9.  Communicate appropriate information between school personnel and Kids & Co. Administrative staff.

10.  Maintain a physical environment that conforms to governmental and state standards of safety and cleanliness and that is conducive to the optimal growth and development of the children in the program.

11.  See that the site operates in conformity with standards for the physical safety and well being of the children.

12.  Keep all storage areas clean and orderly.

13.  Act as group leader as needed.

14.  Supervise site record keeping:

            a.  Attendance records

            b.  documentation of all conferences with parents

            c.  enrollment forms complete

15.  Follow and suggest procedures for evaluation of each child's progress and ways to increase parent involvement, including parent conferences.

16.  Maintain and update children's files as well as notify administration of changes immediately.

17.  Establish and maintain good relations for Kids & Co. with the school and community.

18. Maintain supplies at the site-first aid, recreational supplies, etc.

 Requirements:

 1.  At least one year of experience working in a chilcare/afterschool program and/or Education consisting of accredited college course work in related field.

2.  Ability to supervise staff of varying educational and experiential backgrounds.

3.  Sensitive to the individual and group needs of children.

4.  Understanding of the needs of the school-age child.

5.  Sufficient maturity and judgment to function in crisis situations.

6.  Ability to seek supervision and use it constructively.

7.  Ability to create and atmosphere of positive and appropriate discipline.

8.  Ability to model appropriate practice regarding children and professionalism regarding parents, school site employees and other staff.
