Kids
& Company was founded as Waco Girls'
Club in March, 1938 through the efforts of Mrs. Helen Baldwin and with
the assistance of the Domestic Science Club of Waco. In 1976, the club
moved from the original 9th street location to north Waco, where more
children could be served. The Board of Directors were later able to obtain
land next to the Edna Street Park from the Parks and Recreation Department
and The City of Waco. With help from the community and generous donations
from various organizations and the Coone family, a new facility was constructed.
Interest in the club continued in the years to follow.
The Waco Girls' Club assumed the current name, Kids
& Company, in 1990. This name change helped with community acceptance
as a facility for both boys and girls. Since then, the popularity of Kids
& Co. has grown tremendously. Kids & Co. has branched out to offer
after-school care at six locations including China Spring Elementary,
La Vega Elementary, Robinson Primary, Robinson Elementary,
and the Edna location in north Waco. Full day childcare is offered during
the summer months and on school holidays. Funding from the United Way allows
Kids & Co, to provide tuition assistance to families in need, while providing quality programs
and supervision for children.
